wink : karmic - not in repositorys & fails to install (on manual download)

Asked by Dotdot

Hello,

I've just read

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8433294#post8433294

I've used this software for quite some considerable period of time... on windows now on linux.
Worked fine on 7/8/.. all the way up to 904
now i find it is no longer in the repos.

I downloaded it - it failed to install.

I have managed to find a workaround .. ie install win - the install wintel version to run via wine - that's fine up to a point.
However....

What exactly is the reason for
a/ it not be be in repos
b/ the lib which is fails to install on - not being in the repos
c/ the decision to not include it - have we moved on... has the software not moved on... ?
A few lines to help would be more than useful on this one - if you can help.

This software is crucial to my usage of linux - i capture screen caps to actually help people use linux.
Without this I can't really train people.

There are , i've heard and tried, alternatives - however they are not in the same league as this software.

All the best

Hi dotod, as suggested open a bug, not an open question.

keep in mind Wink is not open source, and not officially supported by Linux-Ubuntu. It's a freeware (free to use software) but closed source. Usually it needs the author consent for modification.

The lib you are looking for is available for Jaunty download here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libstdc++5. you can install it on Karmic and run both ++5/++6, but I agree that's a hassle to simply run/use a software.

Can you help with this problem?
