evolution keeps opening

Asked by henry

I just installed ubuntu a few days ago. I couldn't get evolution to work with my email, so I installed thunderbird and it works great, but evolution keeps opening itself for apparently no reason. It does this when I'm not even using the computer. It sometimes opens multiple times. Yesterday it opened 34 times in less than a minute. It would be nice to use evolution for the calendar if it would stop doing this, but I would be happy enough if I could just get it off my computer. It won't uninstall because it says another application depends on evolution.

Hi henry,

+ Go to menu System -> Preferences -> Sessions, then un-check any program with "Evolution" in its name, ex: "Evolution Alarm Notifier".
+ Go to menu System -> Administration -> Services, then un-check any service with "Evolution" in its name.

Hope this can help,
Viet Hung

Or you could just uninstall evolution :)

There were programs in System->Preferences->Sessions with evolution in the name. I unchecked the one that was under startup programs and removed the two that were under current session and clicked the apply box, but evolution continued to open itself. When I checked Sessions again, they had reappeared. I clicked the button to save my current session, but it didn't work. Thanks, but I went ahead and uninstalled evolution. . . I think.

So I've replaced one problem with another. Now a message keeps popping up saying "couldn't execute command: evolution Verify that this command exists."

Is there anything which can give you a clue on the originator of this message?
By the way, its still the same problem (only difference is that instead of opening evolution it is now displaying an error message).

It may have started because I tried to set up evolution to receive my e-mail or it maybe have been because I installed thunderbird or it maybe be unrelated to either or those, but i noticed it starting after that (although this was only a couple days after installing ubuntu)

Yes, what I meant is if there was any indication on the error message itself about its origins.
The only thing I can think of is to check System->Preferences->Preferred Applications and make sure that your default email reader is set as Thunderbird (not evolution)

Can you help with this problem?
