[dependancies] remaining packages after uninstalling Evolution

Asked by YannUbuntu

Binary package hint: evolution

When uninstalling Evolution (via Synaptic or the Software Centre), it uninstals also:
- evolution-plugins
- evolution-exchange
- evolution-couchdb
- evolution-indocator

Why doesn't it also remove the following packages ?
- evolution-common
- evolution-documentation-..
- evolution-data-server-common
- evolution-data-server

(Ubuntu 9.10)

Because these packages do not depend on the "evolution" package. Instead, evolution depends on evolution-common etc. When a package is uninstalled, all packages that depend on it must be removed as well, but all other packages can stay.

Thank you for your answer.

I feel it is a bug to leave the Documentation ( evolution-documentation-.. ) of an uninstalled software. I think it should be removed when uninstalling Evolution. (that's why i originally filled this as a bug).

Concerning the other uninstalled packages, which other applications use them ?
- evolution-common
- evolution-data-server-common
- evolution-data-server

Actually you don't want to remove the rest of the packages, some of
the core GNOME features depend on these, one for example is the time
and date part.

Vikram
