Getting Evolution to communicate with my webmail account

Asked by George Stephenson

Hello,

In spite of using computers for decades (remember CP/M?), I am a novice at Broadband and Ubuntu Linux at home. All previous email and surfing has been set up by my employers, so I have not had to configure anything before.

I have set up an email account on the web. I have tried to get EVOLUTION to speak with it but get errors which flash up so fast I cannot read them before they disappear. Evolution cannot send emails nor can it receive them. The website is GMX and they say they are POP SMTP etc, compatable, whatever they are. I've tried their helpline, but it does not seem to exist.

Thanks,
George

I´ve do not have GMX mail so I have never configured it. But a quick google search provided me with some information

Your Name The name to be displayed in your sent e-mails.
E-Mail Address <email address hidden>

POP
Incoming mail server pop.gmx.com

IMAP
Incoming mail server imap.gmx.com:143

Outgoing mail server mail.gmx.com:25
User Name <email address hidden>
Password Your password

For encryption I believe none for Incoming and TLS for outgoing

Hope this helps

Dear Wyatt,

Thank you for your prompt reply! After a bit of fine-tuning to get the "<email address hidden>" bits filled in the right setup boxes, everything works fine!

Thanks once again,

George
