Send/Receive grayed out in evolution 2.9.92

Asked by |Fred Krogh

Just moved to feisty from edgey where evolution used to work. The Send/Receive icon is grayed out even though I can ping both the receive and send servers. Suggestions on how to install evolution 2.8.1 in feisty would be welcome, and of course even better would be a solution for this problem. Thanks,
Fred

Sorry -- forgot to mention this is on a dial up connection using POP, but if I try using a broadband connection (not an option later) the problem is the same.

feisty is still alpha software and there _will_ be bugs, i would first recomend that downgrade to the current stable release 'edgy eft'

other than that my first guess would be that you need to re setup your email servers

Is there some place I should be reporting this as a bug?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bugs is typically where evolution bugs should go, but first i would make sure that it is a bug.

try for example setting up a free email account somewhere (google mail or something) and setting up evolution with that mail account, and of course try resetting up your own e-mail account

My problem is "solved" by switching to Thunderbird which works just fine. In Edgey it would receive mail but not send it. I will file a bug report with the information I've posted here.

I just tried setting up an account for a different server and in the process noticed that it never asked me for a password. I suspect the problem has to do with this.

This is serious for us since we have laptops connected constantly to the internet through GSM 3G connections that use ppp.
PPP dial up is also a fall-back for travelling people, thus it has to work! It worked in Edgy.
Hope this will be solved very soon or It will be difficult or impossible for me to migrate laptops to Ubuntu. I need Feisty.

Workaround is to choose File->Work online
a similar bug seems to be Bug #85010 in evolution (Ubuntu) Opens in offline mode

THE IMPORTANCE SHOULD BE INCREASED SINCE IT PREVENTS THE USER FROM SENDING AND FETCHING EMAIL!
This cannot be acceptable nor low importance.
