How can evolution send mail to sympatico mail server ('login' authentication fails)

Asked by Hrothe

Evolution is configured to correctly get mail from the sympatico server but it cannot send mail.
Evolution's email account edit tool -in preferences- has a drop down menu offering a variety of methods for evolution to authenticate the request made to the server. The 'login' method seems the most likely one (according to bell mail username and password are the authentication method). It does not work though. I think I have tried them all.

Tangentially:
Thunderbird has no problem (and the account setup and editing method is easier).

It works now. After setting up several email accounts in Evolution (and disabling or deleting them as they failed to send mail) I unchecked 'remember password' in the send mail configuration tool. It took a while for Evolution to bring up a an entry form for the password (not sure how long but not at the next send mail request to the bell sympatico server). Anyway several hours later I activated the program and saw the password entry box. I entered passwod and Yipee!! as send mail request granted.
Not sure if problem was incorrect password entered on initial setup of accounts.
