Timout error in evolution

Asked by Philip Graetz

How do I change the IMAP timout setting for Evolution. Changing over from Win XP/Thunderbird, I have been unable to access previous emails from my ISP's server. When I run Evolution I get regular error messages "Error while Pinging IMAP server mail.internode.on.net.
Server unexpectedly disconnected: Connection reset by peer." My ISP tells me it is a known problem at their end where clients expect a 30 minute timeout but they are set to 4 minutes. They suggest changing settings in Evolution, but I can't find how to do this.

After 4 minutes are you unable to check mail? If this is the case then try setting Evolution to check your mail every three minutes. I bet that will fix your problem.

As a side note Thunderbird is available on Linux and is nearly identical to the Windows version.
sudo apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird
