I get an error when send & receive mail

Did you select Always under “Use Secure Connection”?

No, this is the setup I used:

and there is no always under "use secure connection". it has: no encryption, tls encryption, and ssl encryption.
I'm using, SSL for receiving and TLS for sending. but no mater what I switch to and try, I get an error.

Now I'm getting this:
MAIL FROM command failed: Must issue a STARTTLS command first w38sm1355051pyg

MAIL FROM command failed: Must issue a STARTTLS command first f51sm940075pyh

It seems that I can receive, but can't send.

Error while performing operation.

DATA command failed: Connection timed out

DATA command failed: Connection timed out: mail not sent

Welcome response error: Unknown

DATA command failed: Connection timed out

ISP is bellsouth.
evolution mail just started giving these errors.
They got worse and now nothing goes out.
Just vanilla SMPT on port 25.
Mystery.

@jm367: please expand on your errors and configuration.

My server is "free.fr". I've done as hggdh said on 2007-08-07 but no effects. It only receives mails but still doesn't send them. Please help!

Hi, I setup evolution (Ubuntu 8.04 -64bit) using "free.fr" and keep getting this error:
"Error while performing operation:
Host lookup failed: smpt: Name or Service not know"
I have done as hggdh said on 2007-08-07:

" reconfigure SMTP to TLS Encryption, PLAIN authentication"
Now I can receive mails but cannot send mine to my friends. Pls Help

Do I have to say bye-bye forever with Evolution mail because it's just receiving but not sending mails??? There's no-one eager to help me ???

be careful the service name is smtp not smpt
