Hi

When setting up evolution you select in gmail:

 1. Settings
 2. Forwarding and POP/IMAP
 3. POP Download: select Enable POP for all mail(even mail that's already been downloaded)

this will forward all your mail to Evolution.

with regards
Ronnie

You can also go to your Gmail inbox in Evolution, select all messages (Ctrl + A) then right click any one of them and select Move to Folder... Then choose On This Computer > Inbox (or wherever else you might want to move them).

If you want Gmail to retain the messages, and have local copies imported too, then choose Copy to Folder... instead of Move to Folder...

Ronnie Barnes's solution should work for existing emails as well as future emails, but if you don't want to change your Gmail account setup, Move/Copy to Folder... is probably what you want.

Hi

You have the option to do a new set up of Evolution or in Evolution select Edit > Preferences > select your account > Edit > and then do step by step. But if you are not familiar with Evolution I would recommand a new setup might as it might be easier.

This is what it looks and you select in POP Download under Pkt. 1. Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)

POP Download:
Learn more
1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since Mar 14
select this one > O Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
O Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
                                O Disable POP

2. When messages are accessed with POP

3. Configure your email client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail)
    Configuration instructions

Ronnie

I was assuming that you were already using Evolution to read your Gmail messages, and that you wanted to know how to transfer them to Evolution's local inbox so you could read them after disconnecting from the internet.

If you haven't set up Evolution to access your Gmail account yet, then you'll need to do that first.

In your web browser (e.g. Firefox):
Sign in to your Gmail account.
Click Settings
Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP

If you want to keep copies of your email in Gmail:
Click Enable IMAP

If you just want to download them to your computer:
Click Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded) (as Ronnie Barnes pointed out)

Click Save Changes

Now in Evolution:
Go to Edit > Preferences
Click Add
Follow through the wizard filling in the information.
These two webpages will help provide relevant details, depending on whether you've chosen POP or IMAP

IMAP http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799
POP http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287
