I have a sound card on my system but Ubuntu does not recognize it

Asked by Myphton

I have a sound card on my system (Sound Blaster) and works just fine with my Windows XP OS, but with Ubuntu, its not recognized. In the terminal, I ran the "lspci" (without quotes) command and this is the information it gave me:

linux@linux-desktop:~$ lspci

Now the line "0000:03:03.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs: Unknown device 0005" is what should be installed and working for the sound but
the line "0000:00:0d.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller (rev a2)" is acting as the sound card (but there is no sound). There is no sound at all for any programs, errors, and anything else at all.

How do I get the Creative Labs Sound Blaster working so that I can have sound?

Thanks a bunch,
Mike

hi sorry your still having trouble the steps are as follws

go to your administration>software sources
and check all boxes

you will be prompted to reload the channel

close and go to your administration>synaptic package manager

under restricted packages you should find the kernel and driver for your system

i cant remember which restricteed its in as i havent used gnome for a while

you will check the boxes for the restricted kernel and driver if it doesnt aouto configure this for you

it should add the packages to the list

also before you go to that scenario you may want to check the box up top in synaptic

mark all up grades

peace =]
hope this helps
