How to setup proxy

It should pick up the proxy from System --> Preferences --> Network Proxy.

Does that work?

ok it works fine; i hv noticed that when i am using a menu-driven
application not all options become available. this is happening when i
use an url to a TrendMicro application in which i can find the
email-messages which have been quarantained. It does not show the list
of messages.
Sorry but i am new to ubuntu and i am trying to get it working on my
notebook and sofar i am very pleased to see the results.

it works fine in some console apps(wget ....)
