How to change eog Edit Image button from F-spot to GIMP?

Asked by Paddy Landau

The Edit Image button in eog (Eye of Gnome image viewer) loads the image in F-Spot.

How can I change this to use GIMP instead?

1. Press Alt+F2
2. Type gconf-editor
3. Using the side bar, go to /apps/eog/ui
4. Change the value external_editor from f-spot-view.desktop to gimp.desktop

Regards,
Mike

Tried the above tip but can't find value external_editor from f-spot-view.desktop to gimp.desktop on the UI screen.

@RayArdia:

1. Go to /apps/eog/ui as Mike said.
2. Right-click and select "New Key"
3. Name: external_editor. Type: String. Value: gimp.desktop

I think that will do it.

Paddy,
Many thanks, that did it, at least so far as getting the String and Value inserted. However I am still having so many problems with F-Spot that I've decided to 'migrate' to Shotwell - we'll seehow that goes.

@RayArdia: Try uninstalling F-Spot. If you continue to get problems, post not here but on the Ubuntu Forums, where you should get expert advice.

@Paddy Landau: Have installed Shotwell 0.8.1 (although when i look at 'Help About' the logo there says Shotwell 0.5.2!)have imported most of my photos from F-spot , and also from my Photos folder, just to err on the safe side.
All seems to be running OK and I THINK I'm about ready to uninstall F-spot.
One snag is that when I'd finished importing I got this error screen:-

/home/ray/Desktop/Screenshot-Import Complete.png

Obviously about 38 photos haven't imported, also 23 'non-image' files, whatever they are.
Any clues? Should I proceed with F-spot uninstall d'you think?
