Status changes when touch my computer

Asked by ColleenElizabeth

Hi,

I change my status on Empathy chat client to "away" and then as soon as I touch my computer (or at least this is what I assume happens since my computer is dark) after being away from it for a bit, it changes the status back to "available". Is there any way to leave your status as "Away" until you manually change it back to "Available"?

Help, I am new to Linux and it may just be a small thing but I can't figure it out.

Thanks!

You should see a drop-up menu which list all available status on the bottom part of Empathy, select "Away" and that will not change until you select "Available" again even if you move your mouse or tap your keyboard.

Note: Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm using Pidgin now and it might not be similar with Empathy.

When you look at Empathy and you are available it shows a green circle and there is a little v to the right. Click on the v and change it to Away.

Hi thanks for the responses,

I also used Pidgin when I was using Windows XP and whenever I changed the status it remained the same until I changed it. I am not finding that to be the case with Empathy.

After I change my status away (red triangle and everything) it stays away until I click on my computer again, almost like an idle/not idle change in AIM.

This is a known empathy bug and has been sent to the developers of empathy.
