pango throws SEGV killing JVM killing Eclipse killing incoming $$

Asked by Bill Scott

Seems as though any action in Eclipse accessing the file system during a reconfiguration action results in the application getting hung or blown away. This is since a distribution upgrade to 9.10 a number of days ago. When the app is blown away the JVM reports a SIGSEGV from pango. Have re-installed virtually all GTK+ components including pango. Have re-installed Eclipse including blowing away all configuration files. No bueno.

Any clues on how to approach debugging?

Marco,
I'm stunned at the speed of your response! :-)

It's not at all clear this is an Eclipse issue. What is clear is
Eclipse is a victim of the problem. The JVM is reporting the problem in
a log and at that time the JVM happens to be running Eclipse. If I was
running another Java app perhaps the same issue occurs. The JVM is
clearly implicating pango in the log.

Should this remain classified as an Eclipse issue or perhaps better
as a GTK issue?

thanks!
Bill

Hi Bill

With your last message you appear to have reopened the question, although your message itself do not suggest that the question was unanswered. I am therefore closing the question again; feel free to reopen it if you feel the question has not been answered fully.

Niels,
I wanted about four or five days of run time prior to closing the
issue. Around the end of that time I simply forgot (and remembered and
forgot repeatedly) to close the issue. Regarding the symptoms on my
development machine the issue is indeed resolved.

Thanks for all of your hard work!

Have had a few weeks of soak time on the fix. Looks stable. Changing to "Problem Solved".
