dpkg package

Launchpad & dpkg -S are not consistent

i can't open my synaptic manager.A pop up box tells me to run dpkg manually.How do I do that?

For searching packages on launchpad click:

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+search

and a query for konquest and a bit of looking through under kde-games yeilds:

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/i386/konquest/4:3.5.8-0ubuntu1

Its not a launchpad naming error I think because packages.ubuntu.com shows every single package uploaded to ubuntu But Launchpad lists the major packages and files included in that package (or) a group where similar packages belongs to that group analogous to an INDEX in a book..

And usage of dpkg

as you said dpkg -S gives the source of a package

when I run dpkg -S alone in a terminal:

And the usage is dpkg -S packagename*

*=name of the package
