can't get into software sources in ubuntu 9.04

i have recently upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 and now i can't access software sources in any form terminal or gui can you help please

Can you clarify what you mean when you say you "can't access software sources"?

Do you mean that Synaptic or apt-get don't work or do you mean that you can't modify your /etc/apt/sources.list?

i can't modify your /etc/apt/sources.list it comes up with permission denied and i have tried it with root

Do this on the terminal.
1. type sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
2. enter your root password
