how do I open a file in OpenOffice calc that is on a floppy disk?

I am trying to open a file on a floppy disk in Open Office Calc. It appears the program isn't / can't mount the Floppy Drive. How do I get it to recognize the floppy drive?

Can you look at the file from the file manager? ie Does Ubuntu recognize the drive? In that case, it may be easier to copy the file over to the hard disk and then open it in OpenOffice.
