Screen resolution

I have a Toshiba p4010 subnotebook with a 1024x768 screen and Ubuntu 9.04 installed on it which only allows a maximum screen resolution of 800x600. Can you tell me how to adjust to 1024x786?

Sorry, this does not work on my Jaunty 9.04. When I paste "xrandr --addmode VGA 1024×768" on the panel it says "xrandr: cannot find output "VGA""
xorg.conf seems to have been replaced by /var/Xorg.0.log which is not displayed nor can be edited on my system.
What else can I do to adjust the resolution to 1024x768?

Sounds to me as though you need to search for updated drivers for your video card and/or monitor that work in Linux.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log is a log file which can be viewed via GUI in system administration -> system log
or in the path mentioned above.
Or via CLI e.g.:
grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log

xorg.conf should be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
