devede crashes, mencoder bug?

Several other DVD/video production apps that were fine with 9.04 now have issues in 9.10 as well. I suspect the bug is mencoder's to fix. Any ideas on a fairly simple work around until the bug is fixed?

What you should probably do first is search ffmpeg in synaptic
Make sure all the ffmpeg libs - libavcodec52 thru libswscale0 have the 'extra' versions installed, and remove any of the 'unstripped' packages of those libs

So I reset all the ffmpeg stuff. some of it wasn't right.
Still crashing.

The next thing I did was uninstall the version of Devede that I had and replaced it with the older one on the link provided. Works now
