I can't install ubuntu 10.4(alternate)

A big problem is: 224MB RAM

Either increase the amount of RAM you have or try Xubuntu or Lubuntu.

While it is not recommended to attempt to run Ubuntu 10.10 on a system with less than 256 MB of RAM, that is not likely to be the cause of the specific problem you are reporting. It *is* likely to be the cause of your difficulties with the Ubuntu Desktop Install CD, but the error message you've received with the Alternate Installer CD typically indicates that the CD itself is corrupted. This could be due to a bad download, a bad burn, a bad drive, or damage incurred to the CD (either before or after the burning process).

by the way i have downloaded Lubuntu10.10
as i've check the cd integrity it worked fine.
no errors.

but wehen i installed it and went to the screen where it looks like a wave in the middle with a blue background.
I got an error message saying " error = failed to copy x authorization file"

If the md5sum checks out correctly, then you do not need to download it again.

Furthermore, if you do download it again, you should check the md5sum of the newly downloaded file. Sometimes network conditions can cause repeated corruption of downloaded files. (There are ways to deal with that...but not until you know it's happening.)

You said before that you got an error while it was checking the CD's integrity. If that is the case, it means that the CD is bad (or that you CD drive is bad). Are you saying that this is no longer happening, but that you're getting a different error now?

This is a different installation problem (different Ubuntu flavor, different version, different error message). I strongly recommend starting a new question about this problem, since it no longer fits the topic "I can't install ubuntu 10.4(alternate)". You'll get best results this way. In your new question, you should make sure to include the information you've already provided about your Lubuntu installation problem, and also which install CD you're using (Lubuntu Desktop Install CD; Lubuntu Alternate Install CD; or Lubuntu Minimal Install CD, i.e. the "mini ISO").
