ipod touch 2G won't mount

i wanted to get some music/pictures off of my iPod touch 2G (4.2.1) and every time i try to open it I get an error that says:

             Unable to mount iPod
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:
 Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

i just installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit for the first tome so there may just be a simple setting or package that i don't know about, so any help regarding this problem would be very much appreciated.

Go to the Ubuntu Software Center, and get the Hipo iPod Management Tool. Using this program may fix the problem.

i still am getting the same error when i plug in my iPod, and when i try to open Hipo iPod Management Tool it says:
Could not find org.freedesktop.Hal

 and in details:

Do you think it could be because i have the x64 version? I installed it with Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic Package Manager, both getting the same results.

Possibly, but I am not THAT advanced with computers. Why don't you ask the good folks at the Ubuntu Forums? You should get a good response within MINUTES, not hours!
