Packages dash is missing on ubuntu9.10

I try to open ubuntu 9.10 "computer janitor" this error message appear "Essential packages dash is missing. There may be problems with apt sources.list or packages files may be missing?"
what should i do fix this error.

Open "System" > "Administration" > "Synaptics Package Manager" and there in "Settings" >"Repositories ..." check that at least main is selected. Other sources as you like.

Then I'd try installing dash with "Synaptics Package Manager" and see if that helps.
