I'm still new to Ubuntu. I've been trying to figure out how to get to a
command line with the new interface, but I haven't yet. How do I?

Try pressing CTRL-ALT-T ie those three keys together then enter the command

lsb_release -a; uname -a

and copy and paste the result back here.

Do you mean an Expression Home XP-400 Small-in-One™ All-in-One?

Please don't truncate product names, it makes finding drivers take longer

I can't even find a driver on Avasys, all I can recommend is report a bug.

Epson provides a driver for this printer, you need to install the deb package in Ubuntu:
