what is mean by cups-pdf

when i try to add a printer in ubuntu 8.04 I have seen cups-pdf option .What is the use cups-pdf ?

cups-pdf - PDF printer for CUPS

CUPS is a print server, it handles or manages printing. In this case cups-pdf rather then printing to a piece of paper would output to a PDF file.

For example if you used the File / Print menu in a program cups-pdf should create a PDF document of whatever is in the body of the particular program.

It's a virtual printer of sorts.
