Lost my Launch bar for programs and all system setting tools. How do you restore it?

Asked by Tom F.

Looked on-line to try to fix the issue, but all tutorials have you go into your system preferences to correct the concern. Mine are not available to me at this time (system preferences). I changed my screen from the old square screen sliding, the the flasher "cube" design. I also added the wobbly windows. Fun details, but now I am more or less locked out of my own computer. Because my app tool bar vanished I was able to regain the desktop tool bar with File Edit View Go Bookmarks Help. But those are the only options open to me at this time. I got the terminal cooking but to no avail. I tried doing a unity --replace and noticed this error -->compiz (expo) - Warn: failed to bind image to texture

Switch to virtual console (text mode only): ctrl+alt+f1
Login with username and passwd.
# Note, while typing the passwd there is no feedback, but it'll still recognize it.

Enter:
gcontool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
unity --reset
sudo reboot

In case there is still an empty desktop try to open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
Enter:
ccsm

Activate unity-plugin.

Or logout: alt+print+k
Login to unity-2d
Open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
Enter:
ccsm

Activate unity-plugin

Logout-in to Ubuntu (unity-3d).

Can you help with this problem?
