Mouse will only work for maximized windows?

Asked by Miles

Hello All.

Hope you are doing well today. I have a bit of an issue with my ubuntu 13.04 box. I have it setup as headless and it has been working great no worries. Then I did an upgrade and now my mouse only works when the application launched is fullscreen(maximized). If the application is not maximized then the mouse can only move, re-size the application window. It works as it normally should for the desktop as far as right, left clicks are concerned. I have scoured the internet and haven't been able to find a relevant post about control in applications maximized or not. Any ideas anyone?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was connecting to the box with vnc4server and vncviewer.

What do you connect to the system to achieve? What do you do in the VNC session once you connect?

Just start random applications i.e. Chromium, Transmission just regular desktop apps.

You can install openssh-server and run GUI apps using X forwarding. They will show seamlessly on your client PC but be running on the server side....

That sounds neat. I will check into that. Thanks for that interesting reply.

Do I need xming to use X forwarding?

If the client is Windows then yes. If it is desktop Linux then you already have an X server

ok I installed Xming and setup the ssh X forwarding... and I have the weirdest boner right now... :-/

This works great, just not quite the solution I was going for. Still very very cool. I am trying to set this up for my dev box and would rather work as if I had my monitor just attached to the server.

It was a windows decoration problem with oxygen. Changed windows decoration and mouse works as it should.
