i want to format windows XP

First thing is calm down!! The virus situation is over-played in order for M$ anti-virus/malware companies to make a lot of money. The chance are that Xp is easily fixable by a linux!

Do you already have a dual-boot set up so that you can boot your computer into Ubuntu? If so we can use that, if not there's other possbilities.

lol, oops. Sorry for the double post there, i was trying to catch a spelling mistake but was too slow.

Note that the Windows viruses can't affect Ubuntu so just reboot into Ubuntu and use an anti-virus scanner such as ClamAv to scan and remove any infected files from the Xp partition. It's one of the reasons a dual-boot system is so much stronger than either OS would be alone.

If you haven't got any anti-virus then simply install one with Synaptic. Go up to the top taskbar and click on

System - Administration - Synaptic Package Manager

it asks for your normal user password, not your SuperUser/Root one. Use either search tool to find and install ClamAv, or perhaps do a more general search for "anti-virus".

If you really want help with questions then please make some effort to respond when people ask questions. The information that anyone first supplies is seldom enough to fix the whole problem and it's difficult to predict what information will be needed. For this reason people trying to help you ask questions.

I have looked through the questions you have posted here and you haven't marked any of them as "Solved" and haven't given anyone any information they have requested. That makes it extremely difficult for anyone to help you fix these problems.

i had install clamAv..and i scanned all partition of windows drive but it get no result..instead i have a file .scr(its a screen saver) extention...this scanner shows virus to it.

It's very possible the "scr" does contain a virus though, it's a favourite location. Try downloading a different one while you are in Ubuntu and save the new scr onto your Windows partition and scan just the file - i think a right-click allows you to scan a single file/folder. Next time you're in Windows the first thing to do is change the screen-saver to the new one.

Other than the "scr" it sounds like you're free of viruses :) It might well be that poor performance in Windows can be fixed by simple things like defragmenting it - "PerfectDisk" free 1 month trial is better than the one in
Start button - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools
also in that sub-menu you'll see "Disk Clean-up" which is worth running perhaps before or perhaps after defrag but not at the same time. Running both these programs quite a few time usually helps a lot. They run faster and faster each time but first time they take hours.

Are you using Xp to connect to the internet right now? If you are & if it's your own machine and then it would be a good idea to shutdown your machine and come back another day. On 1st April there are often quite a few viruses flying around but in Ubuntu or other linux's we are very safe.
