how do i clean an infected drice (C:/) from ubuntu

hi all,

i run the windows 7 os which is installed in my C: drive which is infected, by which i cannot log onto( coz the at the logon screen the keyboard and mouse freezes).

which do you recommend:

1). by doing a online antivirus scan (if yes, which one?)

2). by installing clam anti-virus on my ubuntu machine( currently i am replying from my infected machine by booted through ubuntu..)

kindly advice.

You can use clamav to scan your system for viruses in a mounted NTFS partition.

Yes , with clamav antivirus.

Use this command to scan Everything. (Ubuntu partition and NTFS partition and everything. All are under the / (root) )

sudo freshclam ; sudo clamsan -rvi /*

Above command will print out the infected files.

Also a "clamtk" package exists. Is a front end GUI program for clamav . Is easier if you're not familiar with the terminal.

Your file system needs to see your windows drive if it cant you need to mount it first see here

Once its mounted I agree with Andrew and Nick use clamav

There is no single best ANYTING for ANY OS. Your question is as intelligent as asking.

"The colour blue, is igt the best colour".

There is no best, if there was then the others would cease development as nobody would use them. Think about it. Why use 'not the best' when it is free, just like the others?

Another way to clean your C-drive is booting Hiren's boot cd (boot from CD-ROM), which has 11 antivirus / anti-malware tools out-of-the-box.
