Webcam issue

Asked by Ζαχαρίας Πυρίνης

Hello everyone,
I'm new to Ubuntu and today (at 16:30 I believe) I installed Ubuntu 11.10.

Since then I've been trying to find a solution to my problem regarding my webcam (Microsoft Lifecam VX-1000).

I've been looking through every forum in the internet, trying every possible suggestion I read, but I still can't make Skype "see" it.

I made this decision today and left once and for all (hopefully) windows in the past, but right now I'm "this" close to switch it back.

I really think that ubuntu is an excellent os, but needs a little bit of work to figure it out.

Even so, I thought that finding a solution to this problem would be a piece of cake! I REALLY REALLY NEED SOME HELP HERE!!!!
Thank you in advance!!

If you install and run cheese, do you see yourself?

not sure then dude I can't see anything else online. Try:

LD_PRELOAD /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

See if it works then

This one gives me a "command not found" message! Guess I'll have to look the exact location of "v4l1compat.so", right?

OK, I got the exact location but still get the same "command not found" message! Anyway, thank you again for your time! I'll try to finger this out!!

Can you help with this problem?
