Question #697266 “Can one not search on the current page?” : Questions : calibre package : Ubuntu

Can one not search on the current page?

Asked by ALinuxUser

Is there really not easy way - or any way at all - to search the current page. I really hope that there is. I have Calibre 5.18 (although had I not thought to look in the status bar of the program, then I would not have been able easily to discover that version number - what's wrong with an 'about' menu entry)?

CTRL + F maybe (it's a pure guess)

I am afraid that your guess is wrong. Nor does F3 work. Nor does anything in Settings -> Searching seem to help.

So: bizarrely, it seems that one can search, only, one's whole book collection (or, possibly - via a setting change?) or a whole book.

I guess that this is not specific for calibre on Ubuntu, so I suggest that you use the general calibre forum at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166 to ask about searching in books.

Manfred: thanks, I suppose. (I am surprised no-one here can answer the question. Yet, I have joined and posted in that forum.)

Apparently the answer is no. (See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4125340&posted=1#post4125340.) I think that that is bad. Perhaps someone should tell me where I should file a feature request (for Calibre as such, not just the Linux version).

PS: As I've found someone else saying on the 'net - and you will see why I do not give a link - it seems hard to know what sort of markup Launchpad allows. Hence the ugly link above.

I do not think that there is anything that can be done here to provide further answers.
This topic is covered in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=339682

I suggest that you set this question to "solved".

PS.: Launchpad questions is "text only" without markup possibilities, except automatic creation of links and conversion of text that contains the word "bug" followed by a number to a link to the bug tracker.

Can you help with this problem?
