I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then it will be updated. Packages in Ubuntu (especially in the LTS release) are rarely updated if there is no real gain and packages with more pressing issues will be prioritised. There doesn't seem to be a PPA here on Launchpad.net
