Cannot install banshee-1 to my hardy amd athlon x2 PC

Asked by Ewm

I have tried all ways to install banshee 1 on my athlon fx2 pc but although I have followed all instructions to the letter, when I try to install it I get a" package not found" error.
Following the banshee PPA instructions and then running Synaptic produces the same error. Am I doing something silly here or is this a bug

Thanks

Paul

No go unfortunately.

When I sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list and add the lines, the terminal seems to lock up and I cannot copy the text to show you what happens.

There is a similar procedure posted by Bhavani Shankar (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and add the lines

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu hardy main

Save the source list

then

sudo apt-get update

then

sudo apt-get build-dep banshee-1

sudo apt-get install banshee)

which appears to work and saves the sources list but produces the same package not found error.

What is the difference in these procedures

Here is the source.list from this procedure......

No that's the intrepid source

The hardy sources are

#Banshee ppa
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/banshee-team/ubuntu hardy main

If you had read the full text of the Terminal as pasted from it after completing the procedure from Bhavani Shankar, you will see that I selected the Hardy Repository, this is what was downloaded. I have not altered anything, so are you saying that the sources.list is wrong?

So Far...

I have removed all banshee packages and retried the PPA procedure. This time it actually downloaded and installed (apparently).

Banshee Music Player appears in the application list and attempts to start, appears in the taskbar, then just ends and the application disappears from the taskbar after a few seconds.

I have removed it with apt-get and then tried reinstalling the package but this produces the same result.

I really don't know how to go forward from this..

The sources list is pointing at the intrepid source not hardy, if you say it has installed then fine.

Run it from a terminal and post any error output you get - use

banshee-1

to run the program.

If you get no output - you could try deleting the config file - it's a hidden folder inside .config in your home directory and then run it again.

Hi Again.

When I tried the PPA again I checked the last line on the sources.list file and this time it showed hardy not intrepid?? I can't explain this!!

I followed your advice and launched banshee-1 from the Terminal.
As it was running up in Terminal, Banshee actually started and ran, but there is an error shown in Terminal.
This is what I have copied and pasted from Terminal

I really appreciate the help. Sometimes it is just so frustrating working with something that you are learning as you go along. I really like Linux and after years of Windows it's a really refreshing change

OK - delete the config file - Ctrl +H to view hidden in nautilus

delete the folder

/home/user/.config/banshee-1

Try running it now
