how do I get Banshee to recognize my ipod, my ipod does have rockbox on it, but i dont think that would be a problem, i run ubuntu 8.04.

Yeah, this is actually a little bug that may have been fixed in the newest version but I don't know as I haven't installed it. The version in the Ubuntu repo is a bit old. If you want the new one, try

https://edge.launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive

The bug report for the ipod issue is

The fix is to install podsleuth

sudo apt-get install podsleuth

Once you do that it should work fine.
