Some Songs Locked and Inaccessible in Banshee

Asked by Lampoman

I've used Banshee for a few days now, but I have a new problem...

I've downloaded the Ubuntu restricted files, but now a few of the songs have a lock symbol by them, are greyed-out, and have the term DRM next to them.

Also, it has to wait for the transcoder to download, and that takes a LONG time...

Hello Brian
One way to get rid of DRM is
You can burn it to an audio CD from iTunes, the rip again in Linux, though there might be some quality loss.
and this error is common because
Apple refuses to license their DRM technology to anyone, so only iTunes and iPods are capable of playing this stuff...
also now according to this article:
http://www.boingboing.net/2004/03/26/vlc-will-play-itunes.html
and
http://www.boingboing.net/2004/03/26/dvd-jon-on-vlc-and-a.html
Fairplay support is available in VLC Media Player 0.7.1 onwards,
and already a newer version i.e 0.8.6 is available in the 7.10 repos, (I havent personally tested it, but its worth giving a try I think.)
To install VLC,
type sudo apt-get install vlc in a terminal.

Hope it helps,

Bhavani Shankar.

VLC looks great...

But how do I import songs into the program and create and view a playlist?
