Ubuntu 10.04: How can I compile audacity 1.2.6-src-tar.gz from scratch?

Hello everyone! How can I compile audacity 1.2.6-src-tar.gz from scratch? I have the file on my Desktop. It

shows as a Directory. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. -gustav521
