No network after putting Jaunty on EeePC 900

Asked by Dave-B

I upgraded my EeePC 900 from Easy Peasy to Jaunty yesterday and now it can't get wired or wireless network connection.

The modules appear to be loading and the hardware working - both atl2 and ath5k are present in lsmod.
NetworkManager can see my wireless network, but fails to connect to it. I get notifications of failing to connect with wired network, and dmesg shows the system recognizes when a net work cable is inserted/removed..

Where should I be looking to identify the problem?

Wicd doesn't seem to do any better than NetworkManager.

The bug was fixed by downloading and installing the package linux-image-2.6.28-8-generic (and dependencies).

I think that the problem was, in upgrading from Easy Peasy to a Jaunty Alpha, the kernel was left at Easy Peasy's version - with no Jaunty kernel installed.

Is this a problem with the upgrade routine?
Should a new bug be raised?

easy peasy is no acknowledged ubuntu version so the bug would have to go to easy peasy's bug tracker. if u like to help - try the routine described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/Mobile/HowTo/TurnUMPCDesktopIntoNetbook and run the update then, if problem occures again it would be worth reporting bugs on jaunty upgrade process
