aptoncd package

need some help with APTonCD

hey there,

I had recently installed a few softwares using aptoncd created on my friend's comp. now when I am trying to create a backup of my own softwares, the aptoncd won't show those which were already installed on my comp, it shows only those which i installed from my friends CD. I can see all the installed softwares in 'Add/Remove programs' and in 'synaptic', I can use them, but I can't see them in aptoncd. how can I get around this problem ?
I had created a backup a few weeks earlier, but later I deleted that one because I thought of creating a mega backup with new softwares included. Dose atponcd have a memory by which it can remember the softwares that it had backed up earlier and so it thinks that it won't be necessary to back them up now ? If so, how do I clear the memory ?

The APTonCD application only makes backup of your apt chace directory, if you have cleanned your cache APTonCD will not be able to show any of previous applicaton installed without a correspondent deb files in your cache.

I didn't cleaned my cache. As it turns out I can't. my account, by default, don't have enough permissions to delete the files in \var\cache . so there is no question of me cleaning the cache. so unfortunately this info is not that helpful, but still thanks.

actually me and few of my friends were trying to use APTonCD as a tool to create software installers which would, in some sence, be parallel to .exe files in windows, so that our life would be a little simpler. It helps us in another way. Few of us don't have internet acess, so those others who have internet acess will download softwares and create an .iso using aptoncd with that software in it. This worked fine for a few times but now we have this problem. I don't have any clue what to do next. so need the help desperately.

The fact that your account doesn't have enough permitions to clean the cache
doesn't help anyway, maybe someone who has permition
to do so has cleanned it!

Can you post the result of 'ls -la /var/cache/apt/archives'?

Run that command in the machine that have all the packages you need.
If possible, send an screenshot of aptoncd listing packages too.

This is same as the list that I see in APTonCD. But believe me there are a lots of others that are there installed on my system and are working fine but they are not visible in APTonCD package list.

"The APTonCD application only makes backup of your apt chace directory"

If you just have those files on your cache directory, APTonCD will only
show THOSE files.

By the way, how can you install software if you don't have administration
rights as you've said before???

I think this question is closed, since APTonCD is showing everything you
have in your cache directory.

you don't need administrative rights to install a software. synaptic (or any thing parallel to it) only asks for your usar account's password. I am not aware if I am an administrator. how to check the same ? I am dead sure about fact that I can't clear my cache, if that's what sounds conflicting.

the question is not closed. please give me something satisfactory, or at least suggest if there is any other way to get around my problem.

Just to make it clear:
If you can install software you can remove it, and you can also clear you
cache anytime you want.

But that does not seem to be the problem anyway, as the packages are being
shown in you cache.

Rafael, APTonCD is showing every package that he has in the cache.
That means the cache was cleanned.

Alternatively, you can use "dpkg --get-selections" in conjunction with
apt-get --download-only to download your installed packages again
and later use APTonCD to make your Media.

I hope that it helps now.
