Is aptitude included by default with Ubuntu 12.04?

As far as I understood, aptitude was removed from Ubuntu a while back, as apt-get was deemed good enough, or for whatever reason. But now that I installed Ubuntu 12.04 (fresh install), apparently aptitude is already installed. Is aptitude included by default now again?

I did install Ubuntu using the Alternate CD ISO, because the Desktop CD ISO (ubiquity rather) kept freezing on me (very frustrating). Could it be that aptitude is included if you use the Alternate CD, as opposed to the Desktop CD?

It's still apt-get only, aptitude is available in the repos

Okay. But that still begs the question why aptitude was installed already after a fresh install. Could it be that aptitude fits on the Alternate CD and so it is included there?

... so are you saying that that decision was only made for Ubuntu 10.10, and that it wasn't a permanent decision? Meaning that aptitude *is* installed by default on Ubuntu 12.04 (probably just because there was enough disc space)?

Yes, it's now the default choice since. Not sure of the rationale. Apt-get and apt-cache do everything aptitude do except the curses interface.
