I tried adding the screenlets PPA but got an error. Now I can't get the error symbol off of my panel in Ubuntu 11.04

Asked by Steven D. Shown

I attempted to add the screenlets PPA to my system, but it would not work, now I have an error icon in my gnome panel that will not go away, no matter what I do. I also get this message in a window in the middle of my screen:

E: Type 't/screenlets/ppa/ubuntu' is not known in source list /etc/list/sources.list.d/screenlets-ppa-natty.list
E: Unable to lock the list directory

How can I correct this problem? I brought up the software sources and deleted the screenlets listing from it, but it still won't correct this issue. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

It also is telling me to go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. I don't understand what it is telling me or how to do this. Then it follows up with
E:_cache->open() failed, please report

This is all the information I have on this matter.

I just discovered that now my software center will not load any choices. I only get the busy indicator in the middle of a blank page, nothing else, no choices or anything

In addition, the update manager and synaptic package manager cause the error to come up, then when you close the error message the entire manager closes out, therefore I cannot install any software or run any apdates. This appears to be a very serious problem.

Open software sources and click on the other software tab. In there you will see the repository that you tried to add (the format is wrong, apparently). Just delete this line and your system should be back to normal.
