Some one sent me a message as to how to fix the flash problem

Asked by Lynne Stevens

About a week or so ago some one sent a message as to how to fix the flash problem . . and it worked very good But since I was having MAJOR PROBLEMS with 11.04 . . I deleted it completely AGAIN for 3rd and LAST TIME and went back to 10.10 getting firefox to play all the different movies / flash movies . . . One site will work and the next one does not Youtube works and Ron Hazelton does not ! . . This time I will print it out to save it ( the fix ) . . It was a gob of Sudo commands !
. . Problem with 11.04 it called thumb drives USB0 / 1,2,3,4 ect . . and I could not copy from or to and my USB item and my backup drive haha said I was not owner and could not copy stuff or use it ( ended up making about 10 DVD+R's full of stuff doc's and downloads plus pictures and video's to save them before formatting the drive ) Said all things belonged to Root . . I am not going beyond 10.10 this is the LAST STABLE version you have made ! ! . . 11.04 and 11.11 has the funny floating graphics and it take to long to get to a program . . The Classic look is 99.9 % better and only available in 11.04, I can get to a program and have it running long before the 11.XX can get to the program open let alone get it running . . The 80 year old man I put on Linux and he UP GRADED by accident and I made it back to the Classic look for him in 11.04 as he was crying about the floating junk when he came over to see me . . Told him DO NOT UP GRADE any more just UP DATE . . ONLY UPDATE ! !

Try:

sudo apt-get install xfce4

Log off then log into the xfce session. It works a LOT like Gnome2. Is that any better?

what is the Xfce4 going to do ? I did a search in the package manager and from what I read it is of no help in fixing the Flash Problem in firefox . . I still get install Flash in about 1/2 of the places I go to and the flash installer was added and even went to
Adobe flash and it said I had to install but it is is installed . . Something is not installed or the program is a bad installation

sudo apt-get --purge remove browser-plugin-gnash flashplugin-installer gnash gnash-common
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-install

Maverick is EOL (End Of Life, no more support or updates) in April, so I suggest you upgrade to a newer release soon. My advise would be to wipe Maverick out and install a clean install of Precise which is LTS (5 years supported).

It was a RE FORMAT and re install 10.10 wiped everything so this was in updates added by the update manager . . And NO not going to UPGRADE been there 3 times and 3 times it has screwed up something so bad as not being able to access my thumb drives or my back up drive to copy and keep junk on for access . . When ever you fix that problem I might upgrade . . It kept telling me I was not the owner of the files or the drive ( I AM THE only ONE USING this laptop the administrator / user I make me sign in to access this computer )

If you format and reinstall, that won't be an issue.

Do the commands I gave help?

Why do you not have a regular backup? Then you wouldn't need to mess with thumb drives, also you will have your data if your hard drive fails....

AHUM you do not take files to some other places like a ABI word file to another computer or a print place like office max ( I put ABI in all of the computers I have switched over and away from windows ) Or use them for keeping things on ? 11.04 said the back up drive was not mine and I could not copy or backup files to it . . also said I could not delete files from there . . And you want me to use 11.XX not again for a long while . .
I do not like the floating icons in the least little bit major pain in the bottom to get to a program if it is not in that floating crap !

How is that related to flash?

As to what the USB problem has to do with flash I have no Ideal just was a problem with the 11.04 . .
But your SUDO APT-GET commands got rid of most of the problem . . I went to the Synaptic Package manager and typed in Adobe flash and got a dozen answers but I got it fixed now I can see movies even in House Calls by Ron Hazelton
