When I try and reconfigure the package Torsten I get the following error message:
/usr/sbin/
Think this might be part of a regression bug as my problems on my desktop and laptop started when I upgraded to Lucid.
On the laptop I have to restart CUPS every time I start up, I cannot print certain .pdf files from my bank as they are corrupted, Adobe flash player crashes etc.
On my desktop I found starting it up on an earlier kernel to 2.6.32-25 cured my problems.
I installed the current MainlineBuild and now my desktop is working very smoothly.
I have reported this as a bug (657754) and have installed the current MainlineBuild so I am about to re-start with kernel 2.6.32-999 and I will test it out

Hi Torsten
Updating the kernel did not solve the problem.
When I ran dpkg-reconfigure I got the same error message
Adobe flash player is still crashing.
How can I reiinstall/repair the plugin or will upgrading later this month take care of this problem?
Revision history for this message
|
#9 |
I believe you best try to uninstall the defect package, e.g.
$ sudo apt-get remove gforge-
This might solve the problem with the updates.
I'm quite sure that the flash player crashes are unrelated.
Updating the kernel or the system should not affect the broken package problem, e.g. it will be still broken after an upgrade of either.

I don't think I was able to remove the damaged package.

Seems bug 383944 is about the same issue. Unfortunately there is no solution for it yet. I will try to reproduce this on a vm and see if I can somehow remove the package.

Does your /etc/postgresql
following lines:
### BEGIN GFORGE BLOCK -- DO NOT EDIT
local gforge gforge md5
local gforge gforge_nss trust
local gforge gforge_mta md5
### END GFORGE BLOCK -- DO NOT EDIT
If this is not the case, then your plugin cannot authenticate against
the database.
Also there is a bug in the prerm script in
/var/lib/
It calls 'invoke-rc.d apache reload' instead of
'invoke-rc.d apache2 reload'.

Hi Torsten,
Sorry for the delay I was away for the weekend
I fixed the prerm script
When I did gksudo gedit /etc/postgresql
Did not know where to paste it in at the start or end of the file so I waited until I could look on my desktop where the file is empty :-0
Where do I put it?

I pasted the lines:
### BEGIN GFORGE BLOCK -- DO NOT EDIT
into the pg_hba.conf file as follows:
# PostgreSQL Client Authentication Configuration File
# =======
#
# Refer to the "Client Authentication" section in the
# PostgreSQL documentation for a complete description
# of this file. A short synopsis follows.
#
# This file controls: which hosts are allowed to connect, how clients
# are authenticated, which PostgreSQL user names they can use, which
# databases they can access. Records take one of these forms:
#
# local DATABASE USER METHOD [OPTIONS]
# host DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD [OPTIONS]
# hostssl DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD [OPTIONS]
# hostnossl DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD [OPTIONS]
#
# (The uppercase items must be replaced by actual values.)
#
# The first field is the connection type: "local" is a Unix-domain socket,
# "host" is either a plain or SSL-encrypted TCP/IP socket, "hostssl" is an
# SSL-encrypted TCP/IP socket, and "hostnossl" is a plain TCP/IP socket.
#
# DATABASE can be "all", "sameuser", "samerole", a database name, or
# a comma-separated list thereof.
#
# USER can be "all", a user name, a group name prefixed with "+", or
# a comma-separated list thereof. In both the DATABASE and USER fields
# you can also write a file name prefixed with "@" to include names from
# a separate file.
#
# CIDR-ADDRESS specifies the set of hosts the record matches.
# It is made up of an IP address and a CIDR mask that is an integer
# (between 0 and 32 (IPv4) or 128 (IPv6) inclusive) that specifies
# the number of significant bits in the mask. Alternatively, you can write
# an IP address and netmask in separate columns to specify the set of hosts.
#
# METHOD can be "trust", "reject", "md5", "password", "gss", "sspi", "krb5",
# "ident", "pam", "ldap" or "cert". Note that "password" sends passwords
# in clear text; "md5" is preferred since it sends encrypted passwords.
#
# OPTIONS are a set of options for the authentication in the format
# NAME=VALUE. The available options depend on the different authentication
# methods - refer to the "Client Authentication" section in the documentation
# for a list of which options are available for which authentication methods.
#
# Database and user names containing spaces, commas, quotes and other special
# characters must be quoted. Quoting one of the keywords "all", "sameuser" or
# "samerole" makes the name lose its special character, and just match a
# database or username with that name.
#
# This file is read on server startup and when the postmaster receives
# a SIGHUP signal. If you edit the file on a running system, you have
# to SIGHUP the postmaster for the changes to take effect. You can use
# "pg_ctl reload" to do that.
# Put your actual configuration here
# -------
#
# If you want to allow non-local connections, you need to add more
# "host" records. In that case you will also need to make PostgreSQL listen
# on a non-local interface via the listen_addresses configuration parameter,
# or via the -i or -h command line switches.
#
### BEGIN GFORGE BLOCK -- DO NOT EDIT
local gforge gforge md5
local gforge gforge_nss trust
local gforge gforge_mta md5
### END GFORGE BLOCK -- DO NOT EDIT
# DO NOT DISABLE!
# If you change this first entry you will need to make sure that the
# database
# super user can access the database using some other method.
# Noninteractive
# access to all databases is required during automatic maintenance
# (custom daily cronjobs, replication, and similar tasks).
#
# Database administrative login by UNIX sockets
local all postgres ident
# TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD
# "local" is for Unix domain socket connections only
local all all ident
# IPv4 local connections:
host all all 127.0.0.1/32 md5
# IPv6 local connections:

Still got the same error message.
What have I done wrong?

I believe the package is just in a bad state, hence causing the
problems. While I had successfully installed and removed the package
with the prerm script fixed, it does not work for you. I am out of ideas
now, sorry.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask John Wilson for more information if necessary.
