Recover Data - Partitoning Issue

Hello All,
I lost all my data on the HDD partition. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and due to a virus attack, all available inodes got consumed. Resultant, I had to overwrite the partition using installation disk. Now, I am trying to recover the data, as I understand that data/files should still be there but not the pointers to these files post repartitioning/re-installation.

Please advice.

Why do you not have a backup?

If you have overwritten the data with other data then the original data is gone. You can use foremost to attempt data recovery. You will need a partition mounted writable to spit the data to. The source disk will need to be unmounted. It will find standing data as well as unmarked data as best it can and you will lose filenames and location but files may be recovered. Some files may be damaged too. A cheap USB would give data integity in the case of catastrophe and would remove the need to do all this.
