xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers.

Asked by misteralexander

When I start up Amarok, I get this error:
xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers.

The audio is working fine. I am watching a movie in VLC & can play the exact same audio tracks in WinAmp via WINE. It's not always like this, SOMETIMES, the audio works just fine in Amarok . . . and sometimes it doesn't . . . very frustrating. On occasion, if I reboot my laptop, the audio will work fine.

LSPCI Reports my Audio Device As:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03)

Amarok is configured to use "XINE ENGINE + ALSA OUTPUT PLUGIN".

Anytime ALSA is NOT enabled, I get this error: "XINE Engine - Audio output unavailable; the device is busy."

Sincerely,
Irritated & Confused . . .

In my experience this is usually caused by flash videos in firefox hanging audio - One way around it is to try changing audio settings - surround jack mode - independent means only one source plays sound at a time - shared means multiple sources can play audio at once.

Hi. Same issue with all application than use the xine engine. I followed the indication for troubleshooting and generated this report (http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=0512a7574aae1c1d11f6d69ab015204a3c1b7c65).
Also it hangs all application to test the sound setup (Multimedia Systems Setup, Sound, ), and I have to kill the process to get rid of the applications (gsteamer...).
Tks
