Streaming sound problem with Ubuntu 8.4

Asked by Tony Foster

Sound works perfectly on my new Dell Mini 10v (Ubuntu 8.4) in that Skype functions perfectly and mp3 tracks play fine. However, streaming sound from the internet (BBC iplayer, AOL radio, Reciva, ...) is broken or simply 'sticks' and plays fragments over and over again. Streaming video, on the other hand, is fine. Is there a simple solution or do I need to make a fresh installation from scratch? Thanks.

Thanks - connection no issue, as I use a wifi radio which is glitch-free. Have now taken the plunge and christened the recovery disk. A pain, but it's worked ...
