microphone does not work

Asked by michael

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Hello,

I am new with Linux and my microphone was working perfectly fine until yesterday. I checked in the voice recorder, the volume control, the input volume was put on mute without me doing anything. I have unticked the box but since then I am unable to record a sound nor to have skype work as far as my microphone is concerned. I am in ubuntu 9.10.

Could you please assist me?
Thanks in advance

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.

Michael, unfortunately, this does sometimes happen with updates. I know that you unticked the "mute" box, but there might be some additional settings that have to be unmuted as well. Please double-check the "Sound Preferences" by right-clicking the volume control. Take a look through all of the tabs to make sure all relevant components are unmuted and its volume is raised.
