[HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia, playback],G752VSK, Realtek ALC668, Speaker, Internal] Pulseaudio fails to detect card . No sound at all

Asked by peddanet

Hi, since the upgrade to 20.04 I have no sound!

Sometimes

$sudo alsa force-reload

works but in most case I had to do more:

$killall pulseaudio
$mv ~/.config/pulse ~/.config/old_pulse
$pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload

It always takes a time. I have an Asus G752VSk laptop (ROG) and a dual boot system with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04. Before in 18.04 and 16.04 it all worked well.

What can I do?

I suggest that you follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure - especially step 1 and the first half of step 3

As I maybe not pointed out clearly enough, i followed a lot of these guides. The problem first occured with the update to 20.04 and it changes from boot to boot (what can have to do with my solving steps). At the moment it stays with noisy mono sound.

I could not make a script if the recipe changes from time to time. And pulseaudio must be startet as a user not root. So for me startup scripts could then not properly worl, at least I do not know how to implement it.

Is there nobody else having this issue with the update? No proper solution which works. I put too much work already in a small issue...hope anybody can help! And I am not capable of apport-collect info to this bug, which annoys me as well.

At the moment the sound comes less and less with poorer quality. If I stop a program for a while, the problem reoccured. killing alsa and pulseaudio did not work or only every few cases , randomnly. I have a NVIDIA and a INTEL audio card on board, as far as I can see this wth hdjack. With rythmbox it works sometimes, with afterwards started spotify not.

I know the rules, but as I pointed out, the apport-collect tool with the case number refused to work. I tried today to open 4 cases (he web page takes it timeout time)but only this worked "manually". And manually means you could afterwards not provide any info with the tools unfortunately. How could I do this?

It would help me to set it the sound driver manually up. like in a virgin environment.
I Have tried to remove (purge) pulse audio, alsa for example and reinstalled them. The system gets so worse that even under windows no sound was delivered. I had to reinstall the ASUS G752VT audio driver to get it working back again. Something is corrupted on the hardware level of driver, the sound card is turned off and on like a plate on your oven.

It started with the update so I can exclude personal changes to the et/config files and I would know why I should have changed that. It worked perfectly with 18.04 and 16.04. I updated from 16.04 to 18.04 to 20.04 (my intention was as always to jump directly from one lts to the next, 8.04,12.04,16.04 and 2004 are like pattern for stability so far, all other versions seem to have their moods to me).

please help
