Main speakers doesn't get mute when headphone is plugged in

I'm using ubuntu 10.04 LTS . Whenever i want to listen music via my head phone i plugged it in but the main speakers don't get mute so i've to mute it manually. Is there any package to do this automatically like in windows ?

Please execute step 1 and step 2, then reboot and send us the full terminal output from step 3 and step 4 from this procedure:

I suggest booting from the Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit LiveCD and testing audio output during the LiveCD session. If it works correctly in the LiveCD session, then install Ubuntu 11.10.
