ASUS P8H67-M LE motherboard with Intel Core i5 processor - no sound

Asked by LEGOManiac

I installed this processor and motherboard earlier this week but I don't have any sound under 11.04.

The odd thing is; if I take the hard disk out of my son's computer (also 10.04), it does have sound.

I'm not sure how to proceed other than to locate an Intel driver.

I forgot to mention: I referring specifically to the HDMI port. I haven't tested the regular audio yet. HDMI sound worked when I put the other hard drive in my system (which is not from a Core i5 motherboard), so I know the HDMI sound is working. I'm just not sure if I need to be doing something to enable it under 11.04 on a clean install.

Open a terminal and type

alsamixer

and press enter to run the program. Press F3 to select the playback sliders. Check that all the levels are turned up. Sometimes the default settings are not what you might expect them to be, and sometimes the required sliders are not labeled what you expect them to be.

Beyond that...

I forgot to close this. The problem turned out to be a defective audio cable. On the old system, it must have been sitting at just the right angle to make the connection and leading me to believe it worked properly. On the new motherboard, I must have twisted it enough to break the connection, but continued believing it was OK since it had worked an hour earlier....

Oh well, Thanks Chris.
