no sound on xubuntu 11.10

I'm running xubuntu 11.10. But it has no sound. Firefox has video but no audio. Chrome has video but no audio. Totem has video but no audio. Parole has video but no audio. The volume is up and not mute. I have the necessary codecs installed. How can I get audio happening?

I got sound back. The cause of the problem was I have 2 sound cards and xubuntu was using the wrong one.
I don't remember the webpage where I found the solution. The solution had to do with:
/etc/modprobe.d
I added a line to alsa-base.conf:
options snd_hda_intel=1

Then I rebooted and sound worked.
snd_hda_intel was the wrong sound card.

I don't remember how I found the name of the sound cards or how to find the site that had this info.
