disable adept dist-upgrade dialog

Asked by Steve Romanow

Is there a way to disable the "There is a new version of Kubuntu available?" dialog. I have a machine at work that I do not want to dist-upgrade for a while, and I do not want anyone else to inadvertently do it. Can I lock it to edgy, or maybe add a "Remind me in XXX YYY."

I can file a feature wish bug if needed. I have looked in /etc, /usr/share/, /root/.kde/, cannot find anything pertinent.

Are you talking about the Synaptic Package manager?
If so, there are some pertinent options under Settings->Preferences in the Distribution Tab.
Would choosing "Always prefer the installed version" do what you are asking for?

No, Cesare, I am using Kubuntu, adept package manager. Thanks though.

OK,

I'm not in kubuntu, so I'm just guessing here.
There are two files which may help you. One is:

/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/15adept-periodic-update

The other is

/usr/share/apps/adept_manager/adept_managerui.rc

Looks like as if with this last one you can disable some of the menu items (like dist-upgrades).

There is apparently also a menu options in Adept -> Manage Repositories to enable/disable edgy-updates?

I will look at these. THanks Cesare. I dont think disabling edgy-updates is a step in the right direction. I do want edgy patches. I just want to keep edgy for a bit yet.

Steve,

perhaps it is worth explaing to you that not many patches will be backported to Edgy. Edgy is not an LTS (Long Time Support) release.
You may safely disable your automatic updates and perhaps check it manually once every few days.
